Known for her powerful and emotive vocals, high energy performances, and evocative lyrics,  Masha grew up in inner city Baltimore in a Russian family.   “I did what all good Russian girls did; I studied classical music.”  Piano from age 4, voice from 7, and dance from 13 years old at the Peabody Conservatory.

Although, she was studying a variety of genres, her first professional gig was as a modern dancer with Deeply Rooted Dance Theater in Chicago.  This launched her onto a career dancing and choreographing around the world with projects such as for The Express by United Artist Pictures, Bollydolls: A Live Cinema Experience and working with legendary choreographers such as Paul Sanasardo, Nathan Trice, and more. 

Even with this success, she felt unfulfilled. In what she calls a “life-changing moment”, Masha was afforded the chance to work with producer extraordinaire, Anthony Marinelli, which pole vaulted her professional singing career. Her debut EP, Conkling Street (an homage to her hometown of Baltimore), was born after years of providing backup vocals for artists and at the encouragement of her renowned vocal coach, Rachael Lawrence.

Soon after, Alexis would enlist like-minded and talented musicians to create Masha and the Fam as we know them today. A collective of extraordinary musicians who sidestep genre boundaries to produce enticing and exciting soundscapes.

Masha Alexis (lead vocals, keys), Philip Cunha (guitar), Servio Maldonado (bass), Kyle Dombroski (drums), Max Maynard (trumpet), and William James Carter III (saxophone) are the musicians that make up The Fam.
